| NGO Engagement - A practical way to manage your stakeholders |
Date
Sep 3 2008
-
Sep 3 2008
Times 2.00pm - 5.30pm
Venue: APCO Beijing Office - 16th Floor, NCI Tower, 12A Jianguomenwai Avenue Chaoyang District |
In collaboration with Plan International and APCO Worldwide the CIMG Secretariat is happy to invite you to this event that is highly relevant to all CIMG members.
This half-day workshop and discussion focuses on working with NGO's in the field to create value-added relationships with local communities. Many members working in remote locations are well aware that local communities are crucial to the success of a project. Partnerships with NGOs to promote community development around mining sites in China is still relatively new, and our speakers will lead a discussion that explores how experiences and lessons can be transferred from other industries and partnerships. Focal areas of this event are:
- What is an NGO? How are community development and NGOs linked?
- What are the trends? How to work with an NGO to mitigate and manage
social risks?
- What are the community needs and possible solutions and possible partners?
- What can the mining company do themselves (internal limitations/abilities)
and (dis)advantages of doing it that way?
These topics and more will be discussed. Given the ever increasing policy trend towards social reporting in China this event will highlight some crucial areas to leveraging NGO's to benefit your project. The discussion won't provide all the answers, but we believe the dialogue will be a useful starting point.
As well, on hand presenting will be Piers Touzel from ERM, who will present case studies on managing stakeholders out in the field.

In China, tungsten and molybdenum resources are very abundant with predominant position in international market. Currently, China factor is resulting in great changes of global tungsten and molybdenum industrial structure. 85% of global tungsten supply is from China, while China’s tungsten consumption has accounted for one third of the world total. Also, China has become the largest molybdenum producing country while overtaking USA, and China’s molybdenum consumption has amounted to nearly 40 thousand tonnes, only inferior to Western Europe.
However, under strict policy from state government to restrict the exports of products with high energy consumption, heavy pollution and resources products and to promote “energy saving and emission reduction”, China’s tungsten and molybdenum industry is also faced by great resources and environmental pressure.
So, aiming at sustainable development, how will state government regulate and manage tungsten and molybdenum industry in the future? How about current situation and long-term development prospects for global production, consumption and trade in the world? How can China’s tungsten and molybdenum producers balance domestic sales and exports? How can the producers upgrade production technology and develop towards deep processing? How about development strategy of global major producers and consumers?
2008 China International Tungsten and Molybdenum Forum to be held in Luoyang on Sept. 17-19, 2008, will bring together the major industrial experts, consultants, producers, consumers and traders to discuss all these hot topics above.
At the same time, aimed to promote communication and cooperation, the industrial exhibition welcomes all major producers and equipment suppliers at home and abroad to show their core products and main advanced equipment.

China is a global leader in the production of precious metals; it was the top producer of gold and the third largest of silver in 2007. China’s continuing importance to the silver market is abundantly evident as it continues to not only produce more silver, but also consume more silver as well.
With the global economy facing many challenges in its financial markets, silver investment and its use in industrial applications continues to rise, despite a dramatically higher silver price. Still, there are many challenges and opportunities in the silver market, and from an international scope, the China International Silver Conference is your best venue to learn about the role of silver in this key market, and how to get involved in this important market.
The China International Silver Conference(CISC)enters its 7th year in 2008. Past attendees include government bodies, silver industry organizations, leading silver mining companies, refiners, manufacturers, investors and traders. The CISC has become the most important international silver conference in the world for market participants, and offers attendees an excellent forum for networking and learning more about the ever increasingly important role that China plays in the silver market.
